Product overload

Sooooooo, I gave in and straightened my hair. I usually wait until November/December but I was legit tired of looking at that same bun on top of my head. So after my dry detangle, deep condition and oil rinse, I wrapped my hair with a tshirt and hopped out the shower. I applied my usual leave in conditioner (Shea Moisture JCO) ok cool. My curls are popping as usual. Here’s where it gets funky. I don’t know what was going through my head but I applied more oil to my hair……whyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I used the Mizani Surpeme Oil

With this product, a little goes a long way. Do not let the lightweight watery texture fool you. It’s actually pure oil. Eight oils to be exact Sesame and Jojoba oils, Avocado, Apricot, Olive, Argan, Sunflower and Rice Bran oils.

So as I start to blow dry my hair I wondering why is it taking so long to get dry. Could’ve been the 5 layers of product. So finally after I get my hair dry it felt weird. For the life of me I couldn’t figure out why. I follow up with my pressing comb and I quickly realized my mistake.

Product overload. I had way too much of everything in my hair. I’m already knocking on the devils door so as I’m pressing my hair I’m thinking “how am I gonna fix this?” I was not about to shampoo my hair again. My hair was straight as a ruler covered in cooking oil. I wanted to cry. I debated shaving my head but instead I texted my homegirl and she said “just put it in a top bun”

Top bun top bun so we meet again 😩

I walked around for two days looking like I had one bundle worth of hair. I didn’t wrap my hair praying that my pillowcase would soak up some of the excess oil

Day three, finally I had something to work with.

(Still barely able to hold a curl 😔) sidenote: I take 97% of my pictures upstairs in my bathroom the lighting is Ahh-mazing because I’m facing the window with natural light (no filters/editing)

Product overload or being heavy handed with product can actually do some damage. It can clog your hair follicles making to difficult for your scalp to breathe. It’s not necessary to use product everyday. Especially when using oils or butters.

But on a brighter note, MY HAIR GREW! From my last check in late May until now October, my hair grew about 4 inches.

I’m contemplating trimming it straight across because it grows in a V-shape. However, I don’t wear my hair straight long enough for it to matter. And when it’s curly you honestly can’t tell.
