Just recently I’ve noticed at new trend of using charcoal and charcoal capsules for all types of beauty uses. Pore masks, teeth whitening and body detoxing. I may have been ahead of the curve because I’ve been using activated charcoal as a teeth whitener for a couple of years now.
Activated charcoal promotes healthy oral hygiene by changing the pH balance in your mouth, prevents cavities and bad breath.
I love coffee. I practically drink it everyday. Why? Because coffee is life.
Aside from coffee, soda and smoking can over time, stain your teeth. Here’s an easy recipe you can use at home to brighten your pearly whites
- 2tablespoons of coconut oil
- 1tablespoon of baking soda
- 5 capsules activated charcoal (be careful opening the capsules, charcoal dust flys everywhere)
- 1 tablespoon peroxide
If you have tooth sensitivity, omit the baking soda, as it tends to irritate the gums
Mix all of the ingredients in a plastic container with a plastic spoon. Avoid using metal items because the activated charcoal will draw out the metals in the bowl.
I typically use the charcoal mixture before I use my traditional toothpaste. Using a my toothbrush (duh) I’ll scoop a bit out and brush my teeth for a good minute. I then, swish the mixture around my mouth for another minute. After rinsing, you’ll see that there may still be residue from the mixture. That’s where my normal toothpaste comes in. Brush your teeth as normal.
I do this routine every other day so it averages out 3xs a week.
Using too often, like any other abrasive, can cause wear on your enamel.
