One of the best things about natural hair is having the versatility to wear it curl or straight. I personally wear my hair curly 95% of the time. It’s easy to style and convenient for my lifestyle. Not to mention I’m from Texas….our motto “the bigger the hair, the harder they stare.”
I love wearing my hair curly because this style lasts 6-7 days between wash n gos. That’s less manipulation which equals less breakage.
When straightening your hair, you want to make sure you use a thermal protectant to prevent possible heat damage. I’ve straightened my hair three times in 2015. I swear by Shea Moisture Jamacian Black Castor Oil-Strenghten Grow & Restore styling lotion. After shampooing my hair I mix my Shea Moisture leave in conditioner with the styling lotion. Followed by blow drying and a flat iron on medium heat.
Major con about wearing straight, Houston rain, Texas humidity. I have to re press my hair every 3 days in order to keep it straight. I’m not willing to risk heat damage for straight hair. That and I feel like I “blend in” with straight hair. My husband and I went out over the holiday season and people kept asking him where I was…I was standing 20 feet away 😫
So the straight hair didn’t last long…back to my curls…… To ensure my curls came back without worry, I opted to use Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth & Repair Nourishing Hair Masque
After shampooing with a sulfate free shampoo, section your hair into manageable sections. Apply to each sections and leave in for 5-30 mins. With a processing cap you can apply low heat. Do not use a steamer with a processing cap because it will add extra moisture to your hair making to too soft. I didn’t take any chances with that. A processing cap and after 20 mins, I rinsed and applied my usual leave in.

Only on the very ends because it had been previously processed. It was less than an once so I just cut it off. I eventually want to lighten the entire top half🙈 I love the color too ☺️
