My Weekly “Wash n Go” Routine

Co wash products used:

  1. Coconut oil (HEB)
  2. Daily Defense Argan Oil conditioner (HEB)
  3. Shea Moisture Jamacian Black Castor Oil-Strengthen Grow & Restore treatment masque (Walgreens)
  4. Vent brush (Sally’s)

I first part my hair into 4 manageable sections. Starting from the bottom…started 😬, I use a mixture of of coconut oil and conditioner to detangle my hair using my fingers and the vent brush. Again, always start from the bottom when detangling your hair, working your way up to the top. This ensures less tangles and breakage. Do this to the remaining sections.                     Typically, I’ll allow the mixture to sit in my hair for 15-20 mins. A top bun or processing cap prevents the hair from getting all over the place.                                    Time to co-wash. I recommend doing this in the shower. Saturate your hair with lukewarm water. Starting from your ends, start manipulating your hair as you would if you used shampoo, working your way up to your scalp. Do not plop all your hair on top of your head and scrunch it all up. This causes knots and tangles. Especially if your hair is curly.                                                                                 *using lukewarm water helps control/prevent flakes and dandruff. How sway? 🤔 Hot water on your skin does what? Dries it out? Make it ashy? Right? Well, hot water on your scalp does the exact same thing. Afterall, your scalp is skin right?                                                                 After rinsing my hair, I apply the Shea Moisture masque and let that sit for 10 minutes. Shower, shave or check your messages.

Once out of the shower, I use an old cotton t-shirt to make a turban. This absorbs any excess water from my hair, keeps my curls in check and prevents frizz.

Now on to the styling….

Styling Products used:

  1. Water  (green spray bottle)
  2. Jamacian castor oil (beauty supply store)
  3. Shea Moisture Jamacian Castor Oil- Strenghten, Grow & Restore leave-in conditioner       (walgreens)

My hair dries pretty fast so I spray my hair with water as I work each section.  While my hair is damp, I take a dime size amount of castor oil and massage it into my scalp working it through to the ends. I have medium/fine hair so too much product/oil weighs my hair down. Finally, I use the leave in conditioner throughout my hair. About a quarter size for each section.  I usually part my hair whichever way I plan on wearing it and allow my hair to air dry. The key is to not touch or manipulate your hair until it’s completely dry. This ensures that your curls stay in tact.

I’ve been doing this process for about a year now and it works great for my hair type. I’ve noticed a big difference in how my hair styles and it does exactly what I want 9 times out of 10.

Once a month, I’ll shampoo my hair with Shea Moisture apple cider vinegar shampoo. It cleanses my scalp, removes any buildup and leaves my hair soft. It’s sulfate free so you don’t have to worry about it stripping your hair of its natural oils.

Girl yes but instead of using a cream leave in conditioner, look for a heat protectant for when you straighten it. If I find something I’ll let you know. 👯

I’ve been trying to find a good hair regimen for my curls to work with me. Sometimes they do,& other times it’s like, who done it & why!! I have THICK tight coily curly hair & half don’t wish to confirm to stretched hair styles. I co-wash, use leave-in conditioner, use Jamaican Black Castor Oil,& Argan/Moroccan oil.

You can try twisting or braiding your hair after you do your co-wash routine and allow it to dry. You have the option of leaving the twists in or you can untwist them and do a cute ponytail or a headband. One of the cool things about natural hair is versatility. You don’t have to stretch your hair with heat. When I want my hair big, I’ll wear it in a top bun for a day then finger pick it out. Your curls will snap back your next cowash day
